The Sapphire Coast Kart Club held its fifth race meet of the season on Sunday, June 22 at Frogs Hollow.
The club was lucky enough to have members of The Bairnsdale Kart Club travel up to race against our members.
The day started with a shower making the track wet for the carbie session but was lucky enough for the track to dry out before the Rookies had their first race.
There were two young boys in this race trying to win the same trophy. At the end of the day local Bega boy Jack Loftus took out first place, then followed by Bairnsdale boy Chase Mallen.
The day kept getting better with five karters in the Junior National Lights fighting for the top three positions.
The battle was tough, hard and very competitive. In the end Cooma boy Tony Anthony Jnr took first place from Adam Braunick and Steele Mallen in equal second place with Rhohan Morgan on the podium for third.
It was a family affair in the Senior National lights with two local families battling it out throughout the race.
All points count in the championship with second and third only three points separating them. In the end Chris Campbell won, with Kelly Simpson in a close second followed by Samantha Simpson and Dave Morgan equal third place.
Local men Brent Whiter and Lindsay Campbell battled all day for first and second in the Leopards. Brent lead the charge and winning the day and Lindsay walking away with second place.
Bairnsdale man Nick Stray lead the charge in Sportsman Light. The racing was competitive. Nick won from local Jake Carracher in second and Adam Lindrea in third.
The day finished off with the Rotax Heavy and Rotax Light.
It was a family affair in Rotax Light as brothers from Canberra Mathew and Chris Nipperess fought with local man Ben Campbell for top three positions. In the end Mathew fought hard to win from Ben Campbell in second and Brother Chris in third.
In Rotax Heavy it was a fight to the end with the three drivers deserving of their win. Local business man David Braunick winning from Ben Barker and in the third place George Anthony from Cooma.
It was a great day’s racing and by the end of the day everyone was tired and exhausted.
The club would like to thank the Bairnsdale Kart Club for coming up, everyone that helped out that day and the Saint Johns Ambulance.
Hope to see you at our next race meet on July 27.
